About Us
The mission of Springfield Ballet School is to offer the best in classical dance training and to bring a vital art form to residents of Southwest Missouri. The school was established in 1976 to provide the highest caliber of dance training and to foster a love of movement and the arts through professional performance opportunities.

We provide an atmosphere and instruction that fosters self confidence, grace, focus and a thoughtful attitude toward instructors and other students. Parents are invited to observe their child’s progress in class during the first and last week of each semester. Written evaluations are mailed to each student’s home at the end of the fall and spring semesters.

Beginning at age three, children may be enrolled in our In-Step dance class. In-Step I is an educational and fun class which introduces your child to dance emphasizing musical awareness, spatial awareness, group interaction, and listening skills. In-Step II (ages 4-5 years) is a more in depth exploration of the dance concepts introduced in In-Step I with additional emphasis on posture and coordination.

Pre-Ballet is a prelude to formal ballet training beginning with ages of 5-6 years and focuses on very basic ballet movements that deal with gross and fine motor skills, creative expression, and music appreciation.

Once students have a basic understanding of movement and are ready to learn the more technical skills associated with ballet, instruction continues with Ballet I. For more advanced and older students additional classes are available including Ballet II, Ballet III, Ballet IV, Ballet V, Intermediate Ballet and Pointe, Advanced Ballet and Pointe, Adult Ballet, Jazz and Pilates.

Our classes are not recital driven as the valuable classroom time is spent in instruction that will increase the student’s dance skills, personal strength and poise rather than focusing on practicing a routine. For students eight years and above that are interested in performing, auditions are available for Springfield Ballet season productions. Students younger than eight may participate in the Children Series Ballets in April and December. Productions are age appropriate, creative and provide a wonderful opportunity to experience being in the performing arts.
